Experimental Analysis of a Slab Continuous-Casting SEN with an Inner Flow Divider

In slab continuous-casting machines, the quality of finished product mainly depends on hydrodynamic behavior molten steel in cavity mold, where submerged entry nozzle is central element. Recently, a nontraditional design was reported, solid barrier attached to inner bottom wall divides its internal volume, particularly around outlet ports. The named flow divider. this work, effect divider analyzed by comparing performance traditional nozzles with altered evaluated experimentally, employing scaled model mold section, using cold water as working fluid. shape jets and fluid pattern were used determine nozzles. addition, several factors affecting process stability analyzed: casting speed, tilt ports, injection gas liquid stream entering nozzle. analysis showed that for divider, (i) are narrow symmetric, (ii) symmetrical double-roll obtained, (iii) liquid-free surface stable has low distortions, (iv) neither increases bubble breakage nor coalescence between them.
